The Scottish Charity Finance Directors' Group was launched in 1994 and provides a forum for finance professionals working in charities and other voluntary organisations in Scotland.  There are now over 140 members throughout Scotland with a variety of interests.

The Group has the objective of:

  • Providing an opportunity for the exchange of views and a discussion on potential solution of common problems for accountants and other Senior Financial Executives in Scottish Charities;
  • Assisting in improving the professional standard of those with financial responsibility in the charity sector in Scotland;
  • Providing an additional focal point within the Scottish Charity World which embodies organisations such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, The Scottish Government and others for an informed view on technical matters relating to accounting and finance.

To help achieve this, the group organises seminars and network lunches as well as providing members with regular e-newsletters. Seminars normally last approximately 2 hours and cover topics such as SORP, IT, pensions, fund raising, reserves policy, Data Protection and employment issues.  Seminars alternate between Edinburgh and Glasgow and also provide an opportunity to network. Network lunches are hosted by our members and facilitated by a member of the Executive Committee.  These are less formal events - with numbers limited to around 12 - and provide opportunities for relaxed discussion over a light lunch.  The focus at network lunches is to encourage discussion on day to day operational issues in addition to wider overarching concerns.  Special interest groups have also been set up in the past to address areas such as lobbying, costing and VAT.   These services are all provided within the Annual Subscription.  A second-tier subscription rate also offers annual subscription to the Charity Finance Directors Group Yearbook.  Membership is not restricted to Finance Directors only - indeed we actively encourage any member of a charitable organisation who has a responsibility for finance at any level to subscribe and contribute to SCFDG.
